Hey everyone, I would like to know everyones thoughts on starting a class 5 unlimited class. I'm thinking anything goes on engines and tires and suspensions.....do ya'll think this would be a cool class to watch? How many people can and would build one of these?(these trucks could get pricey...lol). For those that don't know, the import and sport compact world has drag cars with 4 and/or 6cylinder engines making well over 1500hp. We're talking several turbos, nitrous, super chargers and some with all 3!! All of you fans and drivers...is the mud racing world ready for this?? I would like input from spectators, drivers, truck builders, pit crew members, and track owners, potential sponsors and promoters. Just share your thoughts please.

it sounds great frankie, the only question i would have is could we also do a class5 with just tractor tires like we had talked about in the first part of the season. the idea to have an unlimited class 5 sounds awesome, i would love to see some 4 second 4cyls. the only thing is that a lot of us guys in class 5 ,me included, are not trying to break the bank, to build a 1500 or 2000hp 6 cly, that would cost a hole lot of $$$$$. mabe another idea would be a class 5 b, big tire 4&6, mabe up to a 40 inch tire? i would love to see someting new. lets hear what more people have to say

Franky, and the rest of the class 5 guys,

As most of you know i'm looking to run in Class 5 this up coming year. Depending on what Obama does to Bushs tax Cut depends on what all i do and how much I run.  I like the idea of a 5B. with a larger tire and maybe allow a few more benefits into the class.  I'd have to wonder of  participation in a straight up unlimited 4/6 cylinder class.

My idea to Frankies suggestion would be a "time class". Like lets say a "9 second" class on the 250. Idea would be to run as close to 9 secs without going any faster. This would allow any vehicle capable to be competitive with a vehcile such as Scooby.

Now a 5B would be cool too. I would love to be able to go down there and run in all 3 classes and maybe even class 2.  I'd say let class 5b run any tire of choice. I would love coming down there and run class 5A with the bottle disconnected and 35"s, in 5B put on a set of 38" or 40" R2s and then hook the bottle up for the "9 second class". That sounds like a fun weekend to me!!!

Smokey, I agree 100% on the money thing with an unlimited class 5. I dont think I could make but 1 or 2 races with a truck like that. I would spend the rest of the season working overtime to pay for a new motor or rebuild. If the payout was considerably more it would make it easier. The problem with that is will there ever be enough of these trucks to be able to pay good money.

If the unlimited 5 dont catch on; I'm ready for an "outlaw tire class".....anything goes on tires; cut's, paddles, tractor, big tire(any size). Krusty is begging for some light weight cut tires anyway.

unlimited means you get to choose the tire you run, tractor ,cuts, paddles 40's whatever you like. As for the pay out it doesn't matter what you get you will always have more in you truck than what you win but we know thats how it goes with racing. Been doing this a long time and every since I started I've been in the HOLEEEEEEEEEEEEE. LOL

Prob. will only be a couple truley unlimited trucks but it will give the trucks a chance to make more than two passes and it can be a fun class something new. Please let us loooooooose so we can play with some new ideas.looking forward to flying fast .

we used a '76 cj5 frame. we cut it in half and streched it 18". we set the motor in the middle and built around it. we realy didnt have a plan on what we were gonna end up with but by the time we were done we had enough steel to build two trucks. so we ended up way to heavy. its still alot of fun but we hopr to build a tube chassis and add some more power. by the way thanks for the compliment.

This is what i wanted....input from everyone. I would like to build a class 5 unlimited truck and have no problem believing i'll be competitive. It will be more costly to keep it up and keep making races....just not sure my personal budget would allow me to be in the class for the long haul. Like Herbert says we're all in the from the start but some of us can only go so deep in the hole...lol. Believe me if we can get the trucks to do this i'll be there....if i gotta eat beans and crackers all the time....lol. Truthfully a common class 5 truck could do like mudboy said "strap in a bottle and bolt on some cuts or ag tires" and he's got an unlimited class 5. Keep the input coming the more info I get will help me determine, class5 or class5 unlimited for next year.

the only downside to what is proposed is that it limits you guys to only two tracks that is if sc keeps runnin. we have made the same mistake in other classes now class 2 trucks can't run other places without being modified. If you like racing and having people to race against keep limits to your class if not 4 and 6 class count will fall off and then youll be stuck with a truck that is useless. The rules are very open now build build build but dont push out everyone that wants to race

My 2 cents....I will stay leaf sprung until I die with this Jeep. This enables me to compete at a grass roots level at any track. The ideal situation in my opinion will be to have 4/6 cyl. stay the same in the 200' pit. We are in shaky economic times. If we move to much to fast we will scare away our core participants. We are the largest group next to Class 2 and it would be a shame to screw it up.

I definitely think a Class 5B called big tire big pit would be a hit. Have it be 100% pay back until we bring the number of trucks needed to make it worthy for the Jone's and then all that's left is for me to pull to the line and wax your butts....LOL

Guys the way I see it is I will have to install another class for Lee County 4/6 Street. You all have been very agressive with your race trucks and it  is an Honor to be a witness of your accomplishments. I don't want to leave the street guy out so I think this is what we will do next year. Street 4/6 ......Truck unmodified other than a few little things. and Class 5 as we know it. To these classes I would like to see an unlimmited 4/6 in which only would be goverened by safety rules much like class 6.  You don't need nitrous or a blower or a bunch of turbos, you just need some tires. A Pup Named Scooby ran a couple of 4.9 passes this season with a smallblock and no power adders. just a few years ago that would have been World Record times. The Present Class 6 only has a few trucks built that can only run Class 6 and no other class.  So my vote is run what ya brung 4/6 would be cool with the trucks as they are now with some cuts paddles or tractors and maybe a little shot of NOS.

i agree, all you need is a set of tires and you can go fast. when i ran my ag tires, though they were to short to give the truck enough clearence, the launch and first hole were wild. the amount of traction was rediculus, the truck planted and went like there was no tommrow. the problem of finding tires is easily overcome. alot of guys who used to run tractor tires have gotten away from the in favor of cuts and dont mind letting someone run them. also racing junk.com has a ton of 33, 35, and 38 inch cut boggers and hawgs for sale for reasonable prices, i think i even saw a set of 33inch paddles on there at one time.
